It’s still a frontier region that’s more wilderness than civilization, dominated by 8,000-foot mountains, free-flowing rivers, and the Siberian taiga — an endless wilderness of northern forest.
Class III-IV rafting down Oka river in Sayan Mountains provides a good dose of adrenalin before an excursion to legendary LakeBaikal.
Itinerary:
Day 01. Arrive Irkutsk. Depart for 10 hour bus trip to the village Orlik. Camp on the river.
Day 02. Preparing for rafting. Start of rafting down the Sayan Oka river.
Days 3-4. Rafting down Sayan Oka River (class 3-4).
Days 5-6. Rafting down the river. Rapids class 2-4.
Day 07. End of rafting. Take out near the village of Verkhne-Okinsky. Bus to Irkutsk. Hotel accommodation (3 stars).
Day 08. Lake Baikal excursion.
Transfer by bus to village Listvianka. Walk along the shore of Lake Baikal. Visiting Limnological museum. Local fish market and souvenir’s market. Hike to the observation point. Lunch. Bus to Irkutsk. Hotel (3 stars).
Day 09. Depart from Irkutsk.
